Appenzeller Dresser

Our solid ash dresser is an expression of modernizing traditional forms found in classic Swiss Alpine furniture. The drawers’ brass pulls are ornamented through metal stamping.

“An Alpine antiqued look and heritage brass pulls, but the drawers have one very contemporary feature: they’re soft-closing.”

—WSJ Magazine

Good things do come in small packages. This unassuming dresser packs a punch (and your undies too). Its slim profile is fitting for all those nooks and crannies around the house.

The soft-closing drawers are adorned by polished brass pulls—each uniquely hand stamped in Appenzell.

The handstamped pattern was inspired by Baroque-style scrolls found inside Berneck’s ornate Catholic church.

Our Appenzeller Dresser is the perfect roommate for small-space living. Use as a sideboard when entertaining, storage for that shallow entryway or tidy up in the bedroom. Solid European ash makes up the sturdy, yet streamlined base—honoring traditional alpine furniture through the value and modernization of craft.

Each dresser we create is thoughtfully produced for functional living and lasting beauty.

The longevity of our furniture in itself means that it is better for the environment—using only the best materials to ensure your piece can live for generations to come.

Appenzeller Handicrafts

The rolling hills of Appenzell are home to many handicrafts—including metal stamping, dating back to the early 1800s.

The Appenzeller belt is a prime example of old Swiss tradition. These belts have been made for hundreds of years from cowhide and ornamented with handmade metal fittings—portraying motifs of processions to alpine pastures. The more decorations a belt had, the richer the person wearing it.

At the end of each summer, Appenzell farmers sport colorful traditional costumes and make their trek back to the valley.

Sennensattlerei (Alpine saddlery) is the term used for the work of the artisans who decorate these leather products for farmers, dairymen and their livestock with brass fittings and colored embroidery.

Artisans painstakingly craft straps with bells for bulls, cows and goats, and elements for the traditional costume of dairymen and women, drawing on traditional motifs, figures and ornaments that are characteristic of Alpine farm life. Each Alpine saddler has his or her own ‘handwriting’ which is expressed in his or her way of drawing and engraving.

The shadow gap around the drawers and side panel allow for the solid ash to breathe, throughout the seasons.
